Tim is a young man leading a carefree, wandering life in the Wild Boar Forest with his three friends. He loves this life as he loves his companions, and it doesn’t occur to him that he might ever lose either. However, his happiness comes to an abrupt end when the foursome, through a series of chance encounters, becomes involved in a chain of events that hint at a conspiracy aimed at the Realm itself, threatening to plunge it into civil war. While magicians scheme and different factions move to achieve their own ends, Tim refuses to accept the significance ascribed to him.

After the Campfires has been translated by Laurie Thompson, one of Britain’s leading Swedish scholars and translators, and illustrated by Australian artist David Bromley.

After the Campfires

The Critics Praise:

“…original and imaginative, humorous and not afraid to do things differently in a genre usually burdened by clichés. On the whole, I think Per Jorner’s book does well in comparison to international fantasy and I expect a lot from him in the future. Above all, his undeniable humorous vein, his imaginative visions of unseen landscapes and places and his unwillingness to go along with cheap solutions, combined with the ability to build an exciting and complex plot, is testimony of an original authorship…”
NERIKES ALLENHANDA, STOCKHOLM

“It is the quest for meaning that actually elevates the writer above many Anglo-Saxon colleagues.”
DAGENS NYHETER

“On the whole it is both witty and exciting, if anything better than the [his] international role models. Bold and impressive...”
MANADSJOURNALEN

“In my opinion the best fantasy book of the year [1998] - a future classic!”
